Role Purpose 

To contribute to the company’s business objectives by supporting the Commercial Director with the identification, development, and realisation of new business opportunities across both business units (Calvin Capital and Lowri Beck) within the UK metering market. This role will win new business with utility companies delivering metering services and lead on the commercial delivery and account management of contracts where required within the business.


Development of Business Strategy and Plans

Support the Commercial Director and CCO with assessment of potential metering opportunities, quantifying the opportunity and managing the end-to-end engagement process with the client. Engage with Calisen management team to agree which companies and market areas to target with in-depth analysis and reports. Develop and implement plans to proactively identify suitable opportunities – from both formal procurement processes and direct interaction with potential clients and other stakeholders.

Engaging/Developing Relationships with Potential Clients

Engage with potential clients at senior levels to understand their requirements for metering services and what propositions and models might be attractive to them. Work with potential clients and Calisen team to design and develop propositions which will satisfy their requirements. Produce documented client proposals capturing all key aspects. Respond to any formal tenders with high quality submissions at all tender stages.

Internal Stakeholder Engagement

Keep the Commercial Director informed of developments and liaise closely with the Finance, Commercial, Operations, Legal, and Transaction teams in the development of propositions.

Account Management

Accountable for a large metering (MAP) contract, leading the client relationship, attending monthly performance meetings with the aim to delivery more metering group services with the client. Working closely with the client and internal operational departments.

Investment Committee Approvals

Lead on producing, developing, and presenting approvals papers to the Investment Committee.

Degree level qualifcation (or equivalent experience) 


  • Business development/Commercial experience at a senior level, ideally related to metering and/or energy assets
  • Demonstrable track record of success in leading bids and winning opportunities
  • Development of business strategy
  • High level of financial and commercial acumen
  • Highly experienced in bid management and bid writing
  • Experience of developing practical commercial propositions incl. associated pricing, risk allocation etc
  • Contract formulation and negotiation
  • Energy sector experience/background
  • Knowledge of asset funding models would be an advantage
  • Network of relevant contacts within the energy industry, water companies, metering organisations, local authorities, asset manufacturers etc
