Calisen to acquire UW Home Services (“UWHS”)

Calisen to acquire UW Home Services (“UWHS”)

  • Calisen to acquire the smart metering installation business of Utility Warehouse and continue to provide certain essential energy infrastructure services to Utility Warehouse
  • UW Home Services will supplement Calisen’s Lowri Beck business unit, adding capability and metering volumes as part of a strategy to provide customers with a broader smart meter service offering
  • The acquisition will create synergies across both businesses and provide additional longer-term contracts to the portfolio of activities already undertaken by the Calisen Group

31st March 2022 – Calisen, a leading owner and manager of essential energy infrastructure assets, as well as a provider of meter installation, meter reading, electric vehicle charging, maintenance and ancillary services, today announces that it has acquired UW Home Services. The acquisition supports Calisen’s strategy to develop broader and more holistic services to its customers, including Utility Warehouse.

UWHS was the smart metering installation subsidiary of Utility Warehouse, itself a subsidiary of Telecom Plus plc. The acquisition will see UWHS come together with Calisen’s existing Lowri Beck business unit to add to its existing multi-service operations in the UK.

The acquisition will see Calisen’s meter installation business expand to include the UHWS team. Following a period of integration, the combined business will have a greater spread of workforce supported by a broader portfolio of contracts. Calisen already worked with Utility Warehouse but, following the acquisition, will be able to add a broader range of services including meter asset provision to this important customer. The acquisition is in line with Calisen’s focus on capturing opportunities offered by the ongoing roll-out of smart meters in Britain. Smart meters are a key enabler of a new decentralised and digital energy landscape in Britain, and a critical element of the investment required to move towards decarbonisation

Sean Latus, Group Chief Executive Officer, said: “The acquisition of UWHS is an exciting and progressive expansion for Calisen. It’s another positive step in pursuing our strategy – to bring smarter energy to more people. By bringing UWHS and Lowri Beck together we will be able to reach more consumers and build on our installation capacity. We will also broaden our relationship with Utility Warehouse and provide a more complete metering service to a key customer. I am delighted to welcome our UW Home Services colleagues to the Calisen Group. I look forward to working with you as we deliver a safe and high-quality service to our customers, build on our installation capabilities, and look to future opportunities such as EV and other smart energy infrastructure.”

Stuart Burnett, Co-Chief Executive Telecom Plus said: “First of all, I’d like to thank everyone at UW Home Services for everything they have done whilst part of the UW group. By combining with Lowri Beck, UW Home Services will not only continue to provide a market-leading metering service to UW, but they will be able to explore wider opportunities as part of the Calisen Group.”

About Calisen:

Calisen is a leading owner and manager of essential energy infrastructure assets.

Our purpose is to accelerate the development of a cleaner, more efficient and sustainable energy segment.

Calisen’s operations consist of three business units, Calvin Capital, Lowri Beck and Plug Me In:

Calvin Capital: Through this business unit, Calisen procures, owns and manages a growing portfolio of domestic electricity and gas meters, with a particular focus on smart meters on behalf of energy retailers who make Meter Procurement Charge (“MPC”) payments to Calisen on a long-term contracted basis. Having started out providing meter asset ownership and operation for the Large Legacy Energy Retailers, Calvin Capital has successfully diversified its customer base by winning “Meter Asset Provider” contracts (MAP contracts) with Other Large, Medium and Small Energy Retailers.

Lowri Beck: Through this business unit, Calisen installs metering equipment and provides meter reading and associated services to its energy retailer customers. As a result, Calisen offers a “one-stop shop” proposition, which encompasses procurement, installation, ownership and management of meters or “metering as a service”.

Lowri Beck also installs electric vehicle charging points, operating under a separate trading division – Plug Me In.

Plug Me In is an Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (“OZEV”) approved installer operating on behalf of ChargePoint manufacturers, energy retailers and directly with the general public.

About Utility Warehouse Home Services: As part of the Utility Warehouse group, UW Home Services provides meter installation and maintenance services to Utility Warehouse members. We are a team of passionate individuals who will ensure that our customers continue to receive the award-winning customer service through their whole journey as a member of Utility Warehouse.
